Ratatouille

Well, it’s not about cooking or bad soups but yet it’s all about rats. Four of them to be exact.

Just yesterday, I was on the way back from a night at McDonalds when I noticed a small rat carrying a piece of bread running across the grill on top of a drain. It saw me then it did a thing which I was rather surprised. It dropped the piece of bread and hanged itself upside down by holding on to one blade of the grill. Well, its legs were seen crossed over it. I had the nasty idea of making the poor rat drop into the drain but then I was rather amused by what it did. So I let the spider-rat alone.

A couple of metres away, I saw another young rat again. This little one tried to cross the pavement in front of me but kept turning back, thus it was running in circles while moving forward. Then it spotted a small crack and hid into it. I left the dizzy rat…alone.

The next two rats are really common but they do have their traits. I saw this third one while walking up a small fleet of stairs. It was also moving up the same direction and it ran away when it saw me. Maybe the weird thing about it was that its fur were rather thick and messy. Yup, it’s a big fat rat.

I saw the last one a few minutes after I saw the third one. It also tried to cross in front of me but it drifted 180 degrees and ran off. Yes, drift as in Initial D and Maximum Tune. I hope it knew how to brake. LOL.

In one night, I had a interesting walk with the rodents. Actually, the most funniest encounter with a rat was that once my sister and I were walking on the way back home. We were turning a corner when we met this rat. My sister who had a phobia with rats froze while I was rather surprised to see a rat. Our hearts and the rat jumped at that moment. Yup, the poor rat also got a bad fright and leaped into the air. Then it scurried away once it landed. Till now, we still laugh when any of us mentions about that encounter. ^^

The Rat

Well, if you are thinking of a vermin infestion, you must be way off. But then it does have little reference. Happy Chinese New Year. It’s the year of the Rat.

This year, it’s like 4 days of holiday for me since that it was a long weekend. But then, at my humble age, collecting angbaos is like no longer an interest or something to anticipate for me. Something good came out of it though. My house had a coat of paint. Lavender…a colour i like. The main door had a coat of pink to contemplate with the lavender walls which I do feel a kinda gay. No choice…the lady insisted. Then I had a new sheet of parapet on the floor so now it seems you are walking on wooden planks. A combo of zen and nature. LOL.

A look at Friendster made me think about a few things. Why is there a need to drink in order to socialize? Do we really have to flirt every time at a bar? Is there a need to get wasted in order to get free rides home? Sometimes I don’t get their thinking. Although it seems like they enjoy the company but are friends just for drinking only?

A Singapore icon passed away. A dream that I had once as a kid vanished completely. Yup, Ah Meng the orang utan passed away with a ripe old age of 48 years leaving behind her 4 children and 6 grandchildren. In the past when I was at the zoo, I would always try to see if I can spot her or get a chance to take a picture with her. Now, it’s all history. I only knew about her story till I saw the information on the forums. She survived being sold as a prize and managed to create a story of her own legacy. She will be missed by all humans and animals in Singapore.

May you rise in peace, grandma.
